Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students must: successfully complete the courses: Lexicology and Phraseology of the CMC: Practice of Word Use, Introduction to Linguistics, Morphology of the CMC: Spelling Norms, Language Norms in the Aspect of Translation and Editing, Onomastics of the CMC: Spelling norms; know the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, lexicology, spelling and grammar of the modern Ukrainian language; master the methodology of linguistic analysis of the text; the principles of searching for language errors and their elimination; be able to work with texts belonging to different styles and genres, analyze them in terms of violation of language norms.
Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic theoretical principles of proofreading and editing texts; to teach them to work with the semantic, compositional and factual basis of the text, its linguistic design; to form a methodology for editing texts belonging to different styles and genres.
The course is aimed at understanding the peculiarities of editorial analysis of a text as a method of improving it, mastering the editing technique, the technique of analyzing the thematic, structural and logical organization of the text. Particular attention is paid to the study of various types of mistakes on the example of mass media, business and political texts. Students work with dictionaries, practical guides to word usage, and current spelling, edit modern texts, and improve their form and content. The study of this discipline also involves editing translated texts, taking into account the peculiarities of the originals.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The program of the discipline "Fundamentals of Proofreading and Editing" involves a problematic presentation of theoretical material (lectures with elements of discussion, independent research work, presentations); students' skills in professional analysis and editing of text and research work are developed in the course of individual assignments (independent work with theoretical sources and speech material, preparation of presentations, group projects, writing a test paper).
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester grade is formed by the points received by the student for the following types of work:
1. Answer at a practical lesson (21): 63/42 points.
2. Independent work (report, presentation, project group work - at the discretion of the teacher): 12/6 points.
3. Written work (editing texts): 10/5 points.
4. Final control work: 15/7 points.
The grade is based on the results of the student's work during the semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who score the minimum positive number of points - 60 - receive "passed". Students who do not score the minimum positive score of 60 points receive a "fail" grade. Students who have scored less than 60 points in total during the semester must pass the test by completing material on the topics for which they have a debt in the form of writing independent works, editing texts, completing open-ended tasks, preparing presentations, or, if necessary, writing a test.
