Learning outcomes
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies, and techniques of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and foreign (English) languages. PLO 14. Use the English language in oral and written form, in various genres and style varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communication problems in everyday, public, educational, professional, and scientific areas of life. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate from English and Ukrainian oral and written texts of different styles and genres, excluding highly specialized ones. PLO 23 Identify and analyze the specifics of the communicative situation of translation and its impact on translation decisions. PLO 24. Perform consecutive interpretation from English and master the basics of translation shorthand.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know basic linguistic terms; principles of analysis of linguistic material; features of semantics, and functioning of units of all levels of English, lexical and grammatical material provided by the foreign language curriculum in secondary school. In addition, the student should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice; have elementary skills in selecting, analyzing, and interpreting linguistic facts; communicate on linguistic topics; apply the acquired knowledge and skills in simulated communicative situations.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline "The English Language and Translation" is the formation of English communicative competence essential for effective intercultural communication, deepening students' practical knowledge in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar; to acquaintance with the ways of transferring the meanings of linguistic units of the source language into the target language based on in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects, deepening the linguistic and linguistic and cultural erudition of students. The training is based on fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning with authentic materials and modeling of real communicative situations. It is conducted through practical classes and individual students' work. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the semester.

Sum of points for systematic work during the semester: Answers at practical classes: LO 1.2, LO 1.3., LO 1.5., LO 2.1 - 26 points; Written control task (phonemic dictation, dictation, dictation-translation, etc. :) LO 2.1, LO 1.5, LO 2.2, LO 2.4, LO 4.2. - 15 points; Individual creative work (essay, presentation, etc.): LO 2.4, LO 3.1, LO 2.5., LO 2.2. - 15 points; Blitz survey (active vocabulary, sentence translation, retelling a fragment of an oral topic, etc. :) LO 2.1, LO 2.2, LO 2.4, LO 3.1- 20 points; Contriol work: LO 2.4, LO 3.1- 24 points. Thus, the final grade in the discipline (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the points for the semester work and the exam.
