Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students should know the entire amount of material provided by the "Ukrainian language" program in middle and high school. Be able to perceive and analyze information about the basic concepts of linguistics; highlight relevant and reliable material in the information field; plan and evaluate own work; use interactive and multimedia tools. Have basic skills of working with information in Internet resources; critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena; use of various informative sources.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is the formation of students' systematized scientific knowledge about the basic concepts and problematic issues of vocabulary, phraseology, and lexicography. The discipline belongs to the list of mandatory disciplines and is taught in the first and second semesters of the first year of the bachelor's degree - in accordance with the curriculum of the Ukrainian and English languages: translation and editing program. The subject of the academic discipline is the study of the nature and essence of the word, its meaning and patterns of functioning; structures of the vocabulary of the Ukrainian language, ways of replenishing it; dynamics of lexical changes and the sphere of functioning of the word. In addition to lexicology itself, the course briefly examines "Phraseology", which studies stable word combinations, and "Lexicography" - the science of teaching dictionaries.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Verbal, visual and practical teaching methods: lecture, practical class, independent work. Activities: oral answer, addition, participation in the discussion, mid-term test, individual creative task, final control task.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: The maximum number of points during the 2nd semester is 60 points: answer in the practical lesson: 10 points; individual creative task: 20 points; intermediate tests: 30 points. Final evaluation - an exam in the form of a test; the maximum number of points is 40 points.
