Learning outcomes
Form knowledge about the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic disorders in hereditary and acquired pathological conditions, and to acquaint students with the basic principles of clinical biochemistry as a tool that with using of modern methods of biochemistry and molecular biology can detect metabolic disorders, hormonal changes, as well as the levels of biochemical markers in biological fluids to comprehensively assess the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, kidneys, muscle and connective tissues, nervous system, and thus contributes to a qualified laboratory examination plan and significantly facilitates the diagnostics and choice of treatment ways. Theoretical and practical knowledge provided by this discipline is also necessary for the correct assessment of laboratory data during the control of the disease, in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and in predicting the future quality of life
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the discipline "Medical biology", "Medical chemistry", "Biological and bioorganic chemistry", "Medical and biological physics", morphological disciplines. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of inorganic and organic chemistry, pathomorphology, human physiology and anatomy, cytology, histology, microbiology, clinical immunology and medical genetics. 3. Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and use standard unified biochemical methods to identify and quantify the components of biological fluids
Course content
Clinical biochemistry is an applied branch of biochemistry that, using theoretical knowledge and methods of biological chemistry in the field of clinical medicine, focuses on the study of molecular mechanisms of biochemical processes violations in the body and ways to detect or correct them. The training of a qualified physician requires a deep mastery of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of modern clinical biochemistry - because they can greatly facilitate a qualified and sound diagnosis, the choise of treatment regimen for many diseases. They also are necessary in monitoring the course of the disease, the effectiveness of treatment and forecasting the further quality of life
