Learning outcomes
1. To have the skills of critical thinking, to present their own thoughts in a clear way, to make their arguments. 2. To analyze, comment and summarize scientific and analytical texts of culturological format. 4. To know and understand theoretical approaches to definition of culture, its manifestations and forms of existence. 5. To collect, organize and analyze information on cultural phenomena, events, historical and cultural processes.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting this course, students should know the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; the main achievements of material and spiritual culture; to know basic cultural concepts and categories; use modern methods and tools of cultural studies. 2. To be able to collect and interpret information regarding the methodology of cultural phenomena and phenomena, cultural processes and events; apply the main methods, terms, categories and methodological apparatus of cultural studies in the analysis of socio-cultural phenomena and processes; explain the essence of the phenomenon of culture, its role in human life; 3. Possess elementary skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude and forecasting regarding methodological, political, economic, culturally significant events and phenomena; the use of foreign language professional cultural information sources.

Topic 1. Subject and tasks of the course "Historical-philosophical methods in cultural studies" Topic 2. The concept of method and methodology in the field of culture. Classical, non-classical, post-classical methodologies of science. The specificity of the methodology of cultural studies and the peculiarities of its formation as an independent scientific discipline Topic 3. Formation of a scientific image of humanitarian knowledge during antiquity Topic 4. Systematization of knowledge in the culture of the early modern times. Understanding method, theory (F. Bacon, R. Descartes, B. Spinoza, H. Liebnitz) Topic 5. Culture in the context of classical humanitarian knowledge XIX - beginning. 20th century (descriptive, biographical, comparative-historical, retrospective and other methods Topic 6. Non-classical methods of studying culture in humanitarian knowledge of the 20th century (J. Vico, J. Herder) Topic 7. New methods of cultural research of the 20th century. (cultural-anthropological, semiotic, structuralist, post-structuralist, cross-cultural) Topic 8. Understanding the method and methodology in the II half. XX - beginning of the XXI century. Postmodernism. Poststructuralism
