Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is aimed at the students who have successfully mastered the basic courses of linguistics, translation studies, linguistic country studies and practical course of English in the first and second semesters. The student must know: theoretical foundations of general linguistics, basic categories of translation studies and principles of written and oral translation; be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice; speak the state language (not less than on C2 level) and English (not less than C1 proficiency is required) and basic skills of using innovative technologies in the translation process.
Course content
The purpose of the course is to equip the students with basic tools and develop their skills required for the professional translation analysis of texts, choosing the best translation strategy and carrying out adequate written and oral consecutive translation of texts of various styles and genres, taking into account the text’s linguistic and stylistic features, its communicative and pragmatic effect, emotional and aesthetic impact and ethnocultural information. The course provides basic knowledge about the professional activity of the translator; forms a holistic understanding of functional styles in translation, suggests approaches to solving practical translation problems; develops skills of rendering/ abstracting and annotative translation of source material and develops the ability to provide translation comments; suggests an insight into fundamental issues of translation studies, develops analytical skills of professional analysis of original works and translations, teaches to consciously choose the best translation strategy; explains the principles of editing translated texts and criticism of translation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The following training activities are planned: class activity and communication in practical classes; oral and written translations, oral and written translation comments; individual translation tasks and their presentation; team translation projects and their presentation; independent work of students on home assignments and passing various integrated tests. Teaching strategies include, in particular, practical and interactive methods, problem-solving and project and research methods, competence method and scientific discussion, etc.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of learning outcomes is carried out on a 100-point scale. The students get from 35 to 60 points for their class activities, oral and written translations, renderings /abstracts, and various tasks defined by the program and from 24 to 40 points for the exam.
