Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of national and foreign language mastery to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and scientific communication; to present the results of their studies in the national and foreign language. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize a successful communication. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it considering expedient methodological principles, formulate summarizations based on the individually processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 18. To present the results of one’s research to the academic community in academic publications or presentations at conferences, round tables, seminars, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The programme is aimed at students with an adequate level of training in English, Theory and Practice of Translation, Comparative Lexicology of English and Ukrainian, Comparative Stylistics of English and Ukrainian obtained during the first, second, third and fourth year of studies. The student should know: key linguistic categories; general principles of translation and interpreting; be able to: form a correct communicative-logical sentence structure; perform an adequate pre-translation source text analysis; use the target language means to render the integral genre-stylistic source text means; acquire a requisite minimum of extralinguistic knowledge on the Ukrainian and global linguoculture, genre theories and stylistic models. It implies a comprehensive study of strategies and tactics of resolving the professionally-important interlinguistic and cross-cultural tasks with an account of cognitive, linguopragmatic and sociocultural parameters.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at forming and developing the communicative-discursive competence of future translators. The attention is focused on honing the optimal use of language means to perform the spoken and written interaction under the typical translation-associated circumstances. The students continue to develop and train their skills of systematization and generalization of linguistic knowledge based on the theoretical courses and elective syllabi. The course is based on synthesis of linguistic, linguo-cognitive and spiritual development of future professionals and practitioners, knowledge of the key communicative translation research. The study is based on the individually-based and cognitive-communicative principles using authentic materials. The study comprises practical classes and individual training. At the end of the term, the students take a pass-fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Навчальні заходи протягом семестру: • усні відповіді на практичних заняттях; • письмові завдання, які виконуються у процесі самостійної роботи; • індивідуальне риторичне завдання (виступ); • груповий риторичний проєкт (дебати, круглий стіл); • підсумкова контрольна робота.
Assessment methods and criteria
Term evaluation: • maximum number of points during the term – 75; • spoken answers: LO1.1–1.3, 2.3–2.5, 4.2, 4.4 – 10 points; • written assignments (individual training): LO1.1, 1.3, 2.2, 2.4.-2.5, 4.4 – 10 points; • individual rhetorical task: LO1.1–1.3, 4.1, 4.3 – 20 points; • group rhetorical project: LO1.3, 2.5, 3.2, 4.1, 4.4 – 10 points; • final control test: LO1.3, 2.5, 3.2, 4.1, 4.4 – 25 points. • The final control test comprises three written tasks: 1) theoretical item, 2) rhetorical textual analysis, 3) commented translation. Terms of pass/fail test eligibility: Students having obtained a sum of points, which is below the critical evaluation minimum, i.e. 45 points, are not admitted to the pass/fail test.
