Learning outcomes
The student is to know the conceptual foundations of modern medical law and understand its legal nature. The student is: to critically comprehend the legal problems of the organization of health care and the provision of medical care / services; to have an idea of the ways to solve them. The student is to be able to solve complex problems and solve legal problems that arise in the field of medical care / services, in the presence of numerous gaps and inconsistencies in the legislation that governs the relations in the field of health care, as well as imperfections in law enforcement practices.
The student is to be able to analyze the practice of application of Ukrainian legislation in the field of health care in order to prevent the spread of violations in the activities of subjects of medical law. The student is to be able to identify legal issues that need a scientific solution.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of: the constitutional principles of health care; personal non-property rights that ensure the natural existence of a natural person, related to health care and the provision of medical care (medical services); types of legal liability for offenses committed in the field of health care. The ability of analyzing the norms of current legislation of Ukraine, belonging to different branches of law (constitutional, administrative, civil, criminal, etc.), which regulate relations in the field of health care and medical care (medical services). Basic skills for drafting appeals, complaints, claims, taking into account the peculiarities of the practical situation applying legal methods to resolve disputes that arise in health care domain.
Course content
The main part of the course involves the formation of students' ideas about the legal nature of modern medical law, the "core" of which is formed by "doctor-patient" relationaships, which are currently undergoing substantial alterations. An important role is given to the legal status of a patient, a health care worker and a health care facility. Much attention is paid to: the issues of legal responsibility for offenses in the field of health care, as well as legal remedies for the rights and legitimate interests of medical law; the acquainting students with the legal regulation of certain medical activities and legal aspects of providing medicines and medical products in the context of health care reform. The discipline will also provide students with an insight into trends, current challenges, and prospects for the legal regulation of health care organization.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, seminar, independent work of student. Express survey, testing, module test, research paper, final test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The teacher, who conducts the seminars, sets the number of points scored for the mid-term assessment and fixes it in the relevant register of student’s performance. The course is taught during one semester. 5 days before the beginning of the examination session, the teacher who conducts seminars, stops the process of making up the missed classes. For students who have not reached the minimum academic level during the semester (60% of the maximum possible number of points) the final test is conducted, the maximum score for which may not exceed 40% of the final grade (up to 40 points according to 100-point scale).
