Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the courses: "Practical Course of the First Language," "Introduction to Translation Studies," and "Practice of Written and Oral Translation" in the 2nd year. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of translation studies. Proficiency in German at the B1/B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as well as basic translation skills from German to Ukrainian.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to equip students with a system of general theoretical knowledge and specific principles for the adequate reproduction of linguistic units, ranging from words, word combinations, idioms, structurally free collocations, various types of sentences, and texts. The discipline enables the formation of skills and competencies necessary for further development of translation skills. The following aspects are developed: general understanding of the translator's profession, functions of texts, genre characteristics of texts in both working languages; practical application of translation techniques to ensure the correct choice of translation strategy in oral and written translation; development of techniques for free oral and written translation from German to Ukrainian and from Ukrainian to German; acquisition of relevant vocabulary and expansion of background knowledge.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities throughout the semester include: - Assignments that are completed during independent work - Midterm assessment - written tests covering four aspects of language competence - Responses during practical classes - Presentations and written translations of texts, as well as translation of texts from a letter - Preparation of short presentations, group and individual projects related to the course topics - Attending seminars/creative or professional meetings/taking additional courses as part of cooperation with German universities.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge assessment is carried out according to the ECTS system, which includes a two-level evaluation of the acquired material. This includes assessing theoretical preparation - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1-1.3), which constitutes 40% of the total grade, and assessing practical preparation - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.5), (communication 3.1-3.3), (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.5), which constitutes 60% of the total grade. Final assessment: 5th semester - midterm assessment; 6th semester - final exam. For detailed information on assessment, please refer to the course's syllabus or program.
