Learning outcomes
PR01. Know the state and foreign languages at a level sufficient for communication on professional issues and presentation of the results of their own research. PR06. Analyze biological phenomena and processes at the molecular, cellular, organismal, population-species and biosphere levels in terms of basic general scientific knowledge, as well as using special modern research methods. PR10. Present the results of scientific work in writing (in the form of a report, scientific publications, etc.) and orally (in the form of reports and defense of the report) using modern technologies, argue their position in the scientific discussion. PR19. Solve scientific-theoretical, research and applied problems of biology by appropriate methods. PR35. Apply modern specialized methods of virus research to determine a set of properties that are used as taxonomic criteria to determine the species.

1. Successful mastering of the courses "Virology", "Molecular Biology", "Biotechnology", "Plant Physiology", "Genetics of Viruses", "Phytoviruses" and "Molecular Biology of Viruses". 2. Ability to apply knowledge and skills in the field of virology and plant physiology acquired during previous training, to search and analyze scientific literature. 3. Possession of skills of abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis
Course content
The discipline examines the relationship between host plants and viruses (resistance and susceptibility), covers issues related to the peculiarities of the mechanisms susceptibility and resistance of plants to viruses. In the course of studying the discipline the idea of non-specific and specific factors of resistance is formed, which are manifested at different levels of organization and different stages of development of viral infection. The discipline considers the mechanisms of genetic control of plant resistance to viruses, lays the scientific and theoretical foundations for obtaining virus-resistant plants by modern biotechnological methods.
