Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses in "Meteorology", "General Chemistry", "General
Atmospheric Circulation", "Ecological Climatology".
2. Knowledge of theoretical foundations of chemistry, physics, physical geography, ability to establish
cause and effect relationships between phenomena and processes occurring in the natural
environment.
3. Knowledge of methods of synthesis and analysis of information.
Course content
The discipline is devoted to the study of the Earth's
atmosphere. The course consists of four content modules.
Within the first module the features of modern global changes are considered,
especially climate change, the main groups of natural and anthropogenic components of the chemical
composition of the atmosphere, sources of chemicals in the atmosphere.
The second module considers the processes of transformation of chemicals in the troposphere
and stratosphere, the main environmental problems and threats to humanity are analyzed in detail,
that may arise in this process. In the study of this module are actively used
the results of the latest scientific research obtained by the international scientific community and available in English
community and are available in English-language scientific publications.
The third module considers the features of the formation of the chemical composition of the
stratosphere with an emphasis on the mechanisms of formation and destruction of ozone, its climatic
effect.
In the fourth module the climatic effects of atmospheric aerosol are considered,
greenhouse effect, some other global environmental problems associated with pollution
of the atmosphere.
