It is part of the compulsory courses within the educational program "Translation from German and English" and is a part of a multi-semester discipline "History of Foreign Literature". The course is taught in the first semester of the Bachelor's program and consists of 90 hours of instruction (3 ECTS credits). It includes lectures, seminars, and requires independent student work. The form of final semester assessment is an exam. The course provides an overview of the specific development of Western literature from Antiquity to the end of the 17th century. The selected works for study are representative and are examined in the broader context of global literature and culture. They highlight the national-historical specificities of leading Western literatures at various stages of their development, with significant attention given to German literature. The teaching methodology employs a theoretical approach to the history of literature with elements of literary criticism.
