Prerequisites and co-requisites
General scientific and theoretical training and professional competence acquired by students within the framework of the Master's degree program in the following areas: theoretical foundations of philological knowledge in general linguistics and modern English (history of the English language, phonetics, lexicology, stylistics, grammar, communication theory, rhetoric, text and discourse theory); translation theory, basic methods of translation analysis, types of translation correspondences and lexical and grammatical translation techniques.
Course content
The content of the program consists of topics, theoretical issues and practical tasks aimed at determining the level of linguistic, communicative and translation competencies of masters. The comprehensive final exam consists of three content blocks: 1) theory of language, text and communication; 2) theory and practice of translation; 3) oral English communication within a predefined topic.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Students may use monolingual dictionaries during the exam. The time for the written assignment is 60 minutes (rhetorical analysis of the text, translation of a fragment of the text into Ukrainian and a translator's commentary).The exam paper contains 3 questions.The first question involves working with original texts of different genres of up to 350 words in order to carry out a rhetorical analysis of the text and a linguistic analysis of the proposed linguistic phenomena.The second question involves translating a fragment of the text and carrying out a translator's analysis of your own translation. The third question is an oral interview (without prior preparation) within the framework of the predefined topics of the courses Communication Strategies","General Theoretical English", Academic and Business Speaking and Translation. The total time allotted for the interview of one student is 30 minutes (10 minutes for each question).
Assessment methods and criteria
The scoring of the comprehensive state exam in English and translation is based on the principle of the arithmetic mean score for each question of the exam paper (maximum 10 points). The resulting score is multiplied by a factor of 10.
