Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of courses "Cytology", "Histology", "Biochemistry of viruses", "Virology", "General Genetics". 2. Be able to independently apply knowledge of cytology, histology, biochemistry, etc. disciplines, work with scientific and methodological literature. 3. Have basic skills in working with electron microscopic images of cells and cellular organelles, analyze their changes in viral infections.
Course content
Viral cytopathology studies the patterns of changes in cell structure and function during the penetration and development of infectious and oncogenic viruses, which can help reveal the mechanisms of pathological processes, as well as solve problems of diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Knowledge of the cytopathology of viral infections is important not only in terms of the fundamental discipline of "Virology", but also purely applied problems in medicine, biotechnology, genetic and cellular engineering, ecology and agriculture.
