Learning outcomes
Acquaintance with the current state of archaeological science. As a result of studying the course, students should master the initial elements of the scientific research work of an archaeologist and a monument expert, be able to assess the main problems of scientific study and protection of the archaeological heritage of Ukraine, analyze the sources and methods of archaeological research, determine the main types and categories of immovable and movable archaeological monuments , to acquire skills in working with scientific literature, to know the peculiarities of archaeological monuments of Ukraine of different periods.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
o know the most important facts, events and processes of the historical past of mankind; the main stages of the history of Ukraine. Be able to work with scientific and educational literature; structure information. Possess elementary skills of historical analysis, source criticism. establishing causal relationships.
Course content
The course involves the study of the development of archeology as an independent science, the development of a conceptual apparatus and specific methods of archaeological research, the place of archeology in the system of sciences, as well as the legislation of Ukraine on the protection of archaeological heritage. A separate place is devoted to issues of archaeological chronology and periodization, methods of historical and socio-economic interpretations based on archaeological data, as well as the main archaeological monuments of Ukraine from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of points of the student is formed by the semester points received from all topics of the two content modules, points received during the seminars (oral surveys); points received for completing essays; points obtained during the module control (for performing test tasks), as well as points obtained during the final control (exam), namely: for performing the proposed test tasks.
