Learning outcomes
- to know the history and peculiarities of archaeological research of ancient Russian monuments, the key problems of historiography; - to know the main differences in the material culture of the population of Kyivan Rus; - to know the main types of monuments of the time of Kyivan Rus; - to know the main trends in the development of the economy, culture, art, worldviews of the population of Kyivan Rus; - to be able to identify key problems of the study of ethnic and social processes on the territory of Kyivan Rus; - to be able to navigate the basic principles of Old Russian chronology and periodization, categories of dating sources; - to be able to distinguish the main types of sources (archaeological, written, artistic, anthropological, etc.) for the study of the Old Russian period, to carry out the selection and scientific attribution of physical materials. - professional knowledge and skills in the history and archeology of the ancient Russian period.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know - the basics of archaeological periodization, - basic concepts and terms from archeology, - basics of typology and classification of archaeological materials; - forms and types of social and political systems, history and ways of politogenesis; - features and specifics of archaeological cultures of the territory of Ukraine in the previous period; - the course of historical events in Kyivan Rus. 2. To be able to determine - the main types of archaeological sources and monuments; - sequence and interdependence of archaeological processes; - characteristic features of settled and nomadic societies; - peculiarities of the material culture of the population of the territory of Ukraine in the previous period. 3. Have elementary skills - works with scientific and educational and methodical literature, - source criticism, - analysis and establishment of causal relationships.
Course content
The content of the course is divided into 2 content modules. Each content module includes lectures, independent work of students, which are completed by a rating control of the level of assimilation of knowledge of the program material of the corresponding part of the course. Content module 1 (СM1) includes topics 1 - 7, content module 2 (СM2) - topics 8 - 16.

Assessment methods and criteria
The control of the student's knowledge is carried out according to the modular rating system. The total number of student points is formed by the semester points received from all topics of two content modules (points received for modular control papers (in the form of tests); points received for completing individual tasks; points received for work in seminar classes, as well as points which are received for the final control work. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The criteria for evaluating a student's answer are: • complete disclosure of the issue • the logic of presentation • use of basic and additional literature • analytical reasoning, the ability to draw conclusions
