Learning outcomes
To know the basic of the general principles of criminal law and legal institutions of its General Part, the main criminal law concepts and categories, understanding of the basics and features of the regulation of criminal law relations; Skills: to apply the rules of criminal law, law enforcement and theoretical guidelines for criminal law estimation of factual situations; skills of legal evaluation of provisions and sources of criminal law, their logical, critical and systematic analysis, understanding of their legal nature and significance; to formulate active position upon the issue and conclusions. Familiarization with the issues of criminal law qualification and its types, grounds and principles to be followed in the course of criminal law qualification and acquaintance with the most universal rules of criminal law estimation of certain types of criminal offenses.

Effective study of the course «Theory of law» in terms of understanding the essence of law, the definition of basic legal concepts, in particular, «branch of law», «rule of law», «functions of law», «legal liability», «offense»; Proper interpretation of the provisions of the sources of law; acquiring skills in searching, processing and analyzing information from various sources, as well as understanding
Course content
The subject of study is the general principles of the law of Ukraine on criminal liability; basic criminal law concepts and categories; general content and features of the institutions of the General part of criminal law, which characterize the criminal offense and its individual manifestations; general content and features of the institutions of the General part of criminal law, which characterize criminal liability and other measures of criminal law. The content and peculiarities of specific criminal offenses (crimes and misdemeanors) are also studied under the existing sections in the Special Part of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching strategies: 1) lecture - a detailed theoretical report on the sources of criminal law; 2) discussion - an effective argumentation of problematic aspects of the impact of the Constitution of Ukraine and international law on the criminal law of Ukraine; 3) case study - consideration of separate decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court, identification of aspects of the impact of these decisions on the criminal law of Ukraine;
4)problem solving - assessment of hypothetical law enforcement situations in terms of the rules of criminal law in time; 5) independent work – individual study of the recommended literature.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final score in the course is the sum of points obtained during the semester (up to 40 points, minimum 24), and points obtained for the exam (up to 60 points, minimum 36). The exam is conducted in the form of a written exam paper. Exam test includes effective argumentation of a case (criminal case) (maximum score - 50 points) and a practical task (maximum score - 10 points). Assessment based on the results of the semester, consists of points based on the results of lectures and seminars.
