Prerequisites and co-requisites
The discipline Comparative Typology of Ancient and Modern Greek Language is a component of the cycle of disciplines in ancient Greek and modern Greek languages. The course is based on the knowledge of ancient Greek language, modern Greek language, Greek hermeneutics, history and dialectology of ancient Greek language, Greek language of Hellenistic koine, introduction to linguistics, general linguistics, topical problems of modern linguistics, structural and typological comparative studies of classical languages. While mastering the course, the knowledge of certain aspects of these disciplines is detailed and deepened, what contributes to the effective value of the course, improves both the language and the professional training of graduates in general.
Course content
Objectives of the discipline – to form the knowledge and ideas about the main typological features of the ancient and modern Greek languages; to know common and distinctive features in the system of linguistic units and phenomena of the compared languages in the typological aspect; to study the formation of the Greek linguistic and cultural environment at different stages of historical development. The course is based on theoretical and practical understanding of the structure of the Greek language in the diachronic aspect; revealing and analysis of common and distinctive features in the system of linguistic units and phenomena of the compared languages in the comparative and typological aspects in regard to constant language units. The issues of the systemic language changes, language norm changes, variability of language forms and language heredity are considered in comparison with the data of the language history. The characteristics of the modern Greek language system are presented in regard to the functioning of the language: to the presence or change of some linguistic phenomena and the loss of others, the social nature of the language norm is stressed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment.The scores for the semester comprise the points for the mastering of the materials for the entire course. The total score for the semester consists of the points for the classwork (which provides for independent work with the theoretical materials for the classwork: oral answers, reports on abstracts, giving presentations, writing tests) and for independent work (writing abstracts, preparing presentations). All types of activities for the semester are estimated as follows: 100 points maximum, 60 points minimum. Final score for the discipline is defined as the sum of points for activities during the semester and final test. The final score for the dicipline (60/100) consists of the points for the activities during the semester (48/80) and final test (12/20). Final assessment: credit test.
