            PLO 3.  To apply modern methods and technologies, particularly information technologies, for the successful and effective implementation of professional activities and ensuring the research quality in a specific philological field.
PLO 7.  To analyze, to compare and to classify different trends and schools in linguistics.
PLO 10.  To сollect and to systematize linguistic, literary, folklore facts, to interpret and to translate texts of various styles and genres in classical and English languages.

            To know the basics of grammar and syntax of Ancient Greek and Latin languages, to be
able to establish cause-and-effect relationships between historical events, analyze their
impact on cultural development, to be able to generalize the information.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            Objectives of the discipline – to give students a complete idea of antiquity as the ground of
the European civilization, to reveal the various aspects of ancient culture, such as ancient
literature, philosophy, theater, art, science, etc.
Анотація навчальної дисципліни. The discipline "Translation methods of ancient texts"
is one of the compulsory components of EAP "Classical Studies and Western European
Language" and an integral part of the training of specialists for their professional activities.
The course is aimed at the formation of students competence in the translation of ancient
texts; knowledge of translation theory, skills and abilities to translate Latin and ancient
Greek authentic texts. The discipline is designed to develop students skills in performing
the high-quality translations of texts, written in different genres, to apply various strategies
and techniques that make ancient texts accessible to Ukrainian readers.

            Planned learning activities and teaching methods
        
        
            Teaching methods: lectures, independent work, practical lessons. Forms of studies:
individual tasks (translation project), oral answers, expanded answers, participation in
discussion, open-ended questions, final test.
        
    
            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            The scores for the semester comprise the points for the mastering of the materials for
the entire course. The total score for the semester consists of the points for the classwork
(which provides for independent work with the theoretical materials for the classwork: oral
answers, expanded answers, participation in discussions on lectures and practical lessons,
open-ended questions), independent work (preparing translation) and final test.All types of
activities for the semester are estimated as follows: 100 points maximum, 60 points
minimum. Final test: LR 1.1-1.3; LR 2.1, 2.3; LR 4.1-4.5 – 12/20 points. Final assessment:
credit test.
