Prerequisites and co-requisites
To gain basic knowledge of grammar and syntax of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, skills of establishing cause-and-effect relationships between historical events and the analysis of their impact on cultural development, the ability to generalize.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to give students a holistic view of antiquity as the foundation of the entire European civilization, to reveal various sides and aspects of Ancient culture, such as Ancient literature, philosophy, theater, art, science, etc. Abstract of the academic discipline. Based on the reading of individual passages from the works of Ancient Greek and Roman authors (Homer, Herodotus, Plutarch, Strabo, Eratosthenes; Caesar, Varro, Vitruvius, etc.), students get acquainted with the features of different periods of the history of Ancient culture, the factors of the cultural development of Ancient Greece and Rome since the birth of culture the ancient world before its decline. Attention is focused on outstanding personalities, traditions and innovations of each stage of the development of Ancient culture. Students develop a holistic view of antiquity as the foundation of European civilization, various sides and aspects of Ancient culture are revealed to them.

Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of assimilation of material from all topics of content parts and performance of independent tasks and individual creative works. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work. All types of work for the semester have as a result: in the maximum measure of 60 points, a minimum of 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum number of points on the exam is 40, the minimum number of points is 24. The exam is conducted in the form of a written work with open answers to two theoretical questions, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 20 points.
