Learning outcomes
PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic notions, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activity. PLO 23. Understand the ideological foundations of various theories of language origin, describe language universals and the typology of languages, analyze language as an activity, apply knowledge from different branches of linguistics in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Elementary skills of analysis and interpretation of language at all levels of its structure in accordance with the high school program - phonetics, morphology, lexicology, phraseology, syntax and stylistics, taking into account the view of language as the most important means of human communication and an indispensable sign of ethnicity and nation.
Course content
The goal of the academic discipline "Introduction to Linguistics" is to form knowledge of the basic principles of language theory and apply them to the analysis of specific linguistic phenomena among the languages of the world, to generalize and conceptually express them in oral and written forms. Annotation of the subject matter - the discipline "Introduction to Linguistics" is taught in the first year of the EL"Bachelor" and introduces students to the basics of general linguistic knowledge, the principles of language theory, the most important methods and techniques of linguistic research.

Assessment methods and criteria
The number of points for a semester is formed by the results obtained from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work and for independent work. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: the maximum mark for the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points that are added for the semester assessment is 24; the following learning outcomes are evaluated on the exam: 1.1-1.2; 2.1-2.6; 3.2; 4.2; exam is conducted in the form of a written test with open answers to two theoretical questions or in the form of a written programmed test. The final number of points for the discipline is defined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final assessment (exam).
