Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To implement modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform a successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in an applied linguistics field. PLO 6. To use knowledge of expressive, emotional, logical means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize a successful communication. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) principles and practical aspects of modern linguistics. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech, and literary material, interpret and structure it considering expedient methodological principles, and formulate summarizations based on the individually processed data. PLO 15. To choose the optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific linguistic and literary material.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the normative course Modern Ukrainian Language: Phonetics and Phonology. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, modern Ukrainian literary language, basic laws of logic, philosophy, and psychology. 3. Fluency in the Ukrainian language – oral and written, knowledge of Ukrainian spelling and punctuation. Proficiency in the methods of traditional linguistic analysis at all levels of the Ukrainian language system, as well as skills in working with linguistic literature, lexicographical and reference sources, information in Internet resources; ability to identify reliable material in the information field.
Course content
Students get acquainted with the theoretical foundations of speech production and perception in experimental phonetic and psychophonetic aspects and acquire skills in determining the peculiarities of the language's articulation base. The course provides for a mastery of the orthoepic norms of the Ukrainian language; improvement of one`s own speech on the basis of classical narration readings of various genres. Students learn the differences between oral and written texts (at the lexical, morphological, and syntactic levels), make parallels between orthoepic and spelling norms, get acquainted with breathing and voice control techniques; learn to prepare written texts of various genres for sound recording using text marking with score signs; recognize and classify errors in public speaking (in the mass media, in speeches of scientists, politicians, etc.).

The discipline belongs to the research component of the educational program “Applied Linguistics (Translation, Editing, and Expert Linguistic Analysis)”, the course involves methods and technologies of seminars that contribute to the formation and improvement of master's students' research skills. Classes are held in the form of lectures, seminars, and interactive teaching methods. During the semester, seminars are held on relevant topics, where assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control.
Assessment methods and criteria
Answer at the seminar (participation in a discussion). Presentation with audio recordings of the research task. Test.
