Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge:
1) Successful completion of the courses «Practical Course in an Eastern Language», «Fundamentals of Linguistics», «Fundamentals of Translation Theory (Eastern Language)», «Fundamentals of Translation Practice (Eastern Language)», and «Stylistic Features of Translation (Eastern Language)»;
2) key concepts, phenomena, and classification models of communication theory in general, and the characteristics of the existence and functioning of communicative strategies in particular.
Be able to:
1) engage in highly skilled and effective communication based on the acquired theoretical foundation, taking into account the characteristics of the discourse within which it takes place.
Possess:
1) skills in analyzing foreign-language professional information sources and working with Turkish texts of various styles.
Course content
The multi-semester course «Communication Strategies in Turkish (6th Semester)» introduces students to the basic concepts and phenomena of communication theory. In addition, the course examines fundamental issues in discourse studies and the distinctive features of business, political, academic, and everyday discourse. Particular attention is paid to the classification of communicative strategies and the analysis of the specific ways they are employed depending on the discourse within which communication takes place. Furthermore, the course involves conducting a multifaceted analysis of the material covered and developing practical skills for effective communication within these discourses. The course «Communicative Strategies of the Turkish Language (6th Semester)» is a component of the elective block «Linguistics and Translation» within the educational and research program «Turkish Language and Literature and Translation, English Language»; level of higher education: first (6th semester; total of 300 hours, including 150 hours of practical classes and 150 hours of independent study).
The course syllabus consists of two content modules and two module-based assessments. Instruction is conducted in the form of practical classes. The course concludes with a credit.
