Course content
«Interdisciplinary Course Part 1: Fundamentals of the ottoman language for academic purposes» is dedicated to the linguistic reconstruction of the ottoman language as a complex sociolinguistic system. The course involves an in-depth analysis of the interaction between turkic, arabic, and persian elements at the phonetic, morphological, and lexical levels. The focus of study is the evolution of the literary language from the classical period to the tanzimat era. Students learn to distinguish between stylistic registers (from «simple» to «refined» language), analyze poetic meters (aruz), and rhetorical figures, which is essential for a comprehensive philological study of the Ottoman heritage. The course is aimed at the systematic mastery of the fundamental principles of the Ottoman language and the corresponding development of linguistic competencies. The primary objective is to establish solid reading and writing skills as key tools for working with source materials. This provides the necessary methodological tools for realizing students’ academic potential within the framework of Turkic studies. The course is taught in the second semester of the second year of the Bachelor’s program, consists of 30 hours of practical classes and 30 hours of independent work, and concludes with a credit.
