Learning outcomes

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of core courses in French philology (General Course in French Philology, Foundations of French, Grammar, Stylistics) and general academic disciplines (Scientific Worldview, Introduction to University Studies, Socio-Political Studies, Language for Professional Communication). Established basic translation competences (Introduction to Translation Studies, Practical Translation, Theoretical Aspects of Translation, Interpreting Techniques). Proficiency in Ukrainian and working knowledge of French and English. Developed skills in linguistic and intercultural communication, with the ability to use languages across different styles and registers, as well as awareness of translation challenges and strategies. Competence in professional communication (public speaking, text production) and the ability to work with information resources and digital tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, basic translation software).
Course content
The educational component Social and Communicative Translation Practice is compulsory and is carried out as a full-time placement separate from theoretical instruction, in accordance with the programme curriculum. The internship takes place in public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. During the placement, students gain insight into the labour market, apply their professional knowledge, and develop skills in written translation (text formatting, citation, and source management). They learn to interpret texts with attention to lexical and stylistic features. The practice also fosters teamwork, communication, leadership, responsibility, and effective use of ICT. Students develop the ability to solve professional tasks, present outcomes, and analyze and synthesize their practical experience. The duration of the internship is determined by the curriculum.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The Social and Communicative Translation Practice programme comprises three stages: organizational, practical, and final. At the outset, orientation meetings are held to determine the placement site, define tasks, and establish a work plan. Students familiarize themselves with the structure of the host institution and the duties of a translator, complete written translation tasks, compile a terminological glossary, analyze translation challenges, and gain professional experience. The placement is carried out in institutions of various forms of ownership or within university departments, under the supervision of academic staff and field professionals. Students are required to comply with the programme requirements, complete assigned tasks, maintain documentation, and submit a final report. The programme concludes with the preparation of a report, the presentation of results, and their discussion.
Assessment methods and criteria
Students’ Social and Communicative Translation Practice performance is assessed on a 100-point scale. All points awarded are recorded in the internship assessment form (Appendix 4). The final grade (100 points) is calculated as the sum of the supervisor’s evaluation prior to the defense (60 points) and the results of the final assessment (40 points). A student who fails to complete the internship programme in full or receives an unsatisfactory grade must repeat the internship during the vacation period or may be subject to expulsion from the university.
