Know:

Course content
This course is the first component of the comprehensive, multi-semester course «History of literature in the turkic world» and is both theoretical and practical in nature, helping students develop a foundational understanding of the history of ancient turkic literature. The course aims to equip students with knowledge regarding the specific features of old turkic literature from the 9th to the early 13th centuries. An important component of the course’s objectives is also the examination and analysis of works of various genres from this period: destans (epic poems), historical songs, didactic works, and others. Introduction to old turkic runic script and written monuments. Particular attention is focused on an in-depth study of the genre diversity of works, biographies of prominent writers of that time, and the examination of old turkic texts with a retrospective and prospective analysis. The course curriculum consists of two content modules. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and seminars. The course concludes with a final exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted according to the ECTS system, which involves a two-tier evaluation of the material covered, specifically an assessment of theoretical knowledge, accounting for 40% of the total grade, and an assessment of practical skills, accounting for 60% of the total grade.
Assessment of semester work:
1. Oral responses, contributions, and participation in seminar discussions: 20–40 points.
2. Written analysis of texts: 8–16 points.
2. Writing a thesis (up to 3 pages), 2a. Presentation of a report (10 min.): 6–8 points.
3. Writing a module exam: 12–16 points.
