Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to the course, students are expected to demonstrate English proficiency at a minimum level of B2. They should possess solid oral and written communication skills, be able to comprehend authentic texts across a range of genres, and demonstrate knowledge of core grammatical structures and a sufficient vocabulary for effective communication in an academic context. Students should be able to analyze linguistic phenomena, apply knowledge from theoretical disciplines, use reference and digital resources, translate texts of moderate complexity, express ideas in a clear and well-argued manner, and participate in discussions. Regular preparation for classes, completion of individual assignments, adherence to academic integrity, and the development of critical thinking and intercultural communication skills are essential course requirements.
Course content
The course is designed to develop students’ foreign language communicative competence at the B2 level. It focuses on improving speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through the use of authentic materials across a range of genres. Particular emphasis is placed on expanding vocabulary, especially academic and professionally oriented lexis, as well as deepening knowledge of grammatical structures and their functional use in communication. The course also develops skills in argumentation, participation in discussions, and the analysis and interpretation of texts, alongside writing competences (essays, reports, formal correspondence). It includes translation tasks, work with digital resources, and the development of intercultural communication skills. Course workload: 3 ECTS credits (40 hours of practical classes and 50 hours of independent study).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered through practice-based sessions informed by communicative and competency-based approaches. Activities include interactive tasks, role plays, discussions, debates, and simulations of real-life and professional communication scenarios. Strong emphasis is placed on engagement with authentic materials (audio, video, and written texts), as well as on the development of critical thinking and intercultural competence. Teaching methods combine explanatory input with problem-based, project-based, and research-informed learning. Students work both independently and collaboratively, producing presentations, written assignments (essays, reports), and translation tasks, while actively using digital learning tools and resources. Independent study involves systematic engagement with course materials, preparation for classes, completion of individual tasks and projects, and the development of autonomous learning skills.
