Learning outcomes
PRN8. To know and understand the structure of language, the general characteristics of literature as a verbal art form, and the history of the Belarusian and Ukrainian languages and literatures, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional practice. PRN11. To know the principles, techniques and methods of creating spoken and written texts of various genres and styles in the state language, Belarusian and English. PRN13. Analyse and interpret works of Belarusian and Ukrainian fiction and oral folk art, identifying their specific characteristics and place within the literary process. PRN15. Conduct linguistic, literary and Slavic philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

be proficient in: - the necessary terminology; - modern methodologies for analysing literary texts; be able to: - work with source and critical material; - express their views logically and coherently during seminars; cite authoritative research correctly; - justify and defend one’s own opinion; - master the rules for writing and formatting such types of academic work as essays, reports, tests, assignments, essays and creative tasks.
Course content
The course provides a comprehensive overview of Ukrainian medieval and Baroque literature as an integral part of European culture, fostering an understanding of the literature of these periods as having decisive spiritual and political significance; It explores the aesthetic and ideological distinctiveness of ancient Ukrainian literature and defines its place within the context of Slavic and Western European literatures.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and seminars, individual consultations, supervision of students’ independent work and monitoring of its progress, and mid-term assessments.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out in accordance with the ECTS system, which provides for a two-tier assessment of the material covered, specifically the assessment of theoretical preparation – learning outcomes (knowledge), which accounts for 40% of the overall mark, and the assessment of practical training – learning outcomes (skills, communication, autonomy and responsibility), which accounts for 60% of the overall mark.
