Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the standard forms of the Spanish language and its dialects, to provide a thorough understanding of the history of the Spanish language’s development and diversification; the phonetic, lexical and grammatical differences between its variants; and to explore the interaction between standard and dialectal language, as well as the main characteristics of dialects at various structural levels of the language. The course focuses on the history of the Spanish language’s development, the formation of its variants and dialects, and their phonetic and lexical-grammatical features. The subject of study is the variability of the Spanish language, its structural features in Spain and Latin American countries, as well as the dialectal features of the Spanish language and the territory of the Kingdom of Spain. An important component is the characteristics of the Espanglish variant as a trend in the globalisation of society. The course develops the ability to recognise and analyse variants and to communicate in the relevant environment.
