Learning outcomes
PLO 3. Apply modern methodologies and technologies, particularly information technologies, to successfully and effectively carry out professional activities and ensure the quality of research in the field of Spanish linguistics and translation.
PLO 7. Analyse, compare and classify various trends and schools in linguistics.
PLO 9. Describe the theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, key terms, etc.) and applied aspects of Spanish
linguistics and translation.
PLO 11. Conduct a scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it in
accordance with appropriate methodological principles, and formulate generalisations based on independently processed data.
PLO 14. Create, analyse and edit texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before commencing this course, students must have successfully completed the theoretical and practical courses in Spanish and the linguistic and stylistic analysis of texts taught over the eight semesters of their undergraduate degree. Be able to collect, analyse and interpret information regarding linguistic phenomena; be able to identify, pose and solve problems; plan and evaluate their own work; apply interactive and multimedia tools for the purpose of conducting academic research. Possess skills in scientific research and information management;
a critical approach to the phenomena under analysis; the use of foreign-language specialist information sources; the production of complex oral and written communications; interaction and cooperation in research-oriented situations.
Course content
The course develops skills in the analysis of communicative tactics and strategies in various types of Spanish-language discourse, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge when perceiving, understanding and producing texts. It forms part of the research component of the educational programme, preparing future researchers in the field of Spanish linguistics. The course covers the history of the development
of linguistic schools, synchronic and diachronic methods of linguistic analysis with the use of modern technologies for research, effective
communicative and pragmatic strategies in spoken and written communication, corpus linguistics and modern lexicography. The ability to analyse texts, recognise and correctly construct communicative strategies develops functional styles of language, to communicate with representatives of various professional groups in any communicative situation, and to investigate linguistic phenomena using the achievements of modern information technologies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out in accordance with the ECTS system, which provides for a two-tier evaluation of the material covered, specifically an assessment of theoretical knowledge – learning outcomes, accounting for 40% of the overall mark – and an assessment of practical skills, accounting for 60% of the overall mark.
Assessment of semester work:
1. Oral responses, contributions, participation in discussion – 25/45 points.
2. Presentation: Learning Outcomes – 11/15 points.
3. Exam 36/60 marks
