Prerequisites and co-requisites
Throughout the course learners will be encouraged: 1. to gain knowledge of major stages of foreign literature evolution as well as dominant philosophical and aesthetic trends and tendencies, precedent-related texts required for the compulsory courses.
2. to demonstrate an ability to use principal postulates of literary theory and basic notions of film theory.
3. to use selected literary terms accurately.
4. to sharpen skills in analyzing literary texts.
5. to present materials of own research orally, in writing and in the form of presentations.
Course content
The discipline “Literature and Cinematography” is aimed to encourage learners to build a firm foundation for study of both historical and cultural background, theoretical and methodological principles of interrelations between literature and cinematography, to gain knowledge of notions related to theory and language of cinema, to sharpen skills of intermedial analysis of literary works, comparative analysis of literary sources and their screen adaptations. The course shapes understanding of synthetic nature of the film art, interrelations between literature and cinematography.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides students with a range of assessment in different forms: seminar classes (oral personal responses, additional responses, class discussions), completing of glossary of terms and synopsis of literary and critical sources, presentations of individual projects. The following teaching methods are suggested: lectures, seminar classes, viewing of videos related to course tasks, individual projects, self-study works.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a credit. The course final mark is calculated as a sum of ongoing assessment points and does not require any other forms of final control. Ongoing assessment is provided by seminar class activities: oral personal responses, additional responses, class discussions (max 15\min 9 points), presentations of individual projects (max 15\min 11 points) and completion of final test (max 20\min 12 points). Total final assessment is max 100\min 60 points). The students who do not meet the standard required for the lowest grade (min 60 points) will have to be assessed by completing self-study works and final test. The final evaluation of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale. There is applied the scale of conformity with grades: Credited 60-100; Not credited 0-59.
