PLO 9. To describe theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, basic notions, etc.) and applied aspects of the Arabic philology.
PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the courses "Practical Course of Arabic", "Theoretical Grammar of Arabic", "Lexicology of Arabic", "Stylistics of Arabic", "Language of the Quran and Quranic Studies", "Medieval Arabic Literature", "Arabic Medieval Prose: Linguistic Aspect", "Arabic Classical Poetics"; Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics and literary studies from the course "Introduction to Linguistics", "Introduction to Literary Studies".
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint master students with the main techniques and methods of modern linguistic and literary analysis on the material of the Arabic language and literature, which students need to write a master's thesis. The technique of analyzing language units in modern linguistics is demonstrated, the specifics of the application of various approaches to the analysis of language and speech phenomena are revealed; the principles of theoretical research in the field of literary studies are highlighted.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of students involves preparation for oral responses in seminar classes, reports with analysis of scientific literature, fulfilment of written exercises, research presentation.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of mastering the material from the entire academic course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (which synthesizes and independent work on the processing of theoretical material in preparation for the classroom: oral answers, additions, presentation defense) and for independent work (preparation of an essay). All types of work for the semester have a total of: - in the maximum dimension - 100 points, - in the minimum dimension - 60 points. In case of absence from a seminar class, the student must complete the assignment for the seminar.
