Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To have deep knowledge of the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages for the written and oral communication purposes, professional and scientific communication in particular; to present research results in the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages. PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical linguistic means, and speech techniques in order to achieve planned pragmatic results and establish successful communication. PLO 10. To collect and pecializat linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres. PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyse and edit texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully study the course, students must have a B2 level of English, have developed communicative competence as part of linguistic, sociocultural and pragmatic competences, and know the technology of translation from English into Ukrainian. Students must also know the main functions, types, structure and participants in the communication process; functional styles and genres of English speech; be able to perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources; decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in oral and written speech; create oral and written texts in compliance with the norms of the speech genre; perform and present educational projects and work in a project group.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to improve students' English-language communicative competence in the process of achieving level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(2020) and to increase the effectiveness of communication in the field of academic speech by: familiarizing students with the features of academic discourse and systematizing knowledge about communicative (rhetorical) strategies for its implementation, forming in students the skills of oral and written production of academic discourse texts in English, translating academic texts from English into Ukrainian and from Ukrainian into English; improving the skills of analyzing the use of speech means and rhetorical strategies in the genres of academic discourse.

Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of control described in clause 7.1. The credit is issued based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment measures. Students who have scored a minimum positive number of points - 60, receive - "passed". Students who have not scored a minimum positive number of points - 60, receive - "not passed". Students who have scored less than 60 points in total for the semester, in order to receive credit, must prepare material on the topics for which the debt arose, in the form of writing independent works, essays or, if necessary, write a test paper. The final assessment is carried out in the form of a test.
