Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Demonstrate a confident command of the national and a foreign language for written and oral communication, particularly in professional and academic contexts; present research findings in the national and a foreign language.
PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication.
PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization).
PLO 11. Carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to taking this course, students must have successfully completed the following subjects of the linguistic and translation disciplinary cycle: "Communicative Practices and Translation Studies (Spanish)", "Comparative Typology of the Spanish and Ukrainian Languages", "Methodology of Organising Scientific Research with Intellectual Property Updates (Spanish)".
To be able to collect and interpret information on linguistic phenomena; to be able to identify, pose and solve problems; to plan and evaluate own work; to use interactive and multimedia tools.
To possess basic skills of scientific research and information retrieval; critical attitude to the analysed phenomena; use of foreign language professional information sources; work with cultural texts; production of complex oral and written messages; interaction and cooperation in learning in search situations.
Course content
The subject of this course is the interrelation between the concepts of discourse studies and translation theory, in particular, the differentiation of the concepts of ‘discourse’ and ‘text’ within various paradigms of linguistic knowledge, the patterns of development in contemporary discourse studies and their reflection in the translation of various types of discourse. This professionally-oriented course develops practical skills and abilities to analyse various types of Spanish- and Ukrainian-language discourse, taking into account their specific features, in order to produce an accurate translation from Spanish into Ukrainian and vice versa. Considerable attention is paid to the linguistic, communicative-pragmatic and socio-cultural differences between various types of discourse and the methods of their translation.

Semester assessment:
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.3), which is 40% of the total grade, and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.5); (communication 3.1-3.3); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.5), which is 60% of the total grade 36-60 points.
Final assessment: written exam: 24/40 points.
