Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the key issues in philology and approaches to addressing them through the application of appropriate methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of the word, the history of the Spanish language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activity.
PLO 9. To characterise dialectal and social varieties of the Spanish language and to describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO 12. To analyse linguistic units, determine their interaction, and characterise the linguistic phenomena and processes underlying them.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary, and specialised philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to taking the course in the second semester, students are expected to have successfully completed the course “Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Spanish Speaking World” in the first semester, as well as to possess basic knowledge of the cultural and historical features of France and Francophone countries.
Course content
The course “Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Francophone World” is a compulsory component of the full-time study programme and is taught in the second semester of the Bachelor’s degree, in accordance with the curriculum of the Educational and Professional Programme “French Language and Translation, English Language and a Second Romance Language.”
The course is worth 4 ECTS credits (120 hours in total), including 28 hours of lectures, 32 hours of practical classes, and 60 hours of independent study.
“Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Francophone World” is one of the key compulsory disciplines in the professional training of future philologists and provides an advanced study of the Francophone cultural space.
The course focuses on the cultural, historical, sociolinguistic, and mental characteristics of Francophone countries, the specifics of the formation of their national identities, as well as the analysis of linguistic and cultural phenomena in different regions of the Francophone world.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Within the course “Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Spanish Speaking World,” a combination of lectures, practical classes, and independent student work is envisaged (lectures incorporating elements of interactive discussion; practical sessions involving the analysis of authentic texts (media, journalistic, and literary), as well as work with visual and audiovisual materials; individual and group tasks, including presentations, mini-research projects, and project-based assignments).
Teaching methods include: the explanatory and illustrative method; communicative and interactive approaches; problem-based learning; and the use of digital resources and multimedia materials.
The course is aimed at developing intercultural competence, analytical thinking, and the ability to interpret linguistic and cultural phenomena within the Francophone context.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course consists of three content modules.
Forms of continuous assessment: oral responses, written homework assignments, and module tests.
Forms of module assessment: module tests.
Final assessment: conducted in the form of a comprehensive examination.
