Course content
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the grammatical structure of the Persian language within the framework of modern linguistics, to enhance students’ general linguistic proficiency, and to develop their skills in the scientific analysis of linguistic material; to familiarise students with Persian grammatical terminology and the specific approach to the study of grammatical phenomena in Iranian linguistics.
The course provides an overview of the morphology and syntax of the Persian language from the perspective of general linguistic theory, using the relevant terminological framework; it examines the formal and semantic structure of the system of morphological and syntactic units in Persian in comparison with their interpretation in Iranian linguistics. The course comprises two main sections. The first section is devoted to the morphology of the Persian language and the characterisation of parts of speech from the perspective of Ukrainian and Iranian linguistics. The second section examines issues of Persian syntax, types of phrases and sentences.
The course ‘Theoretical Grammar of the Persian Language’ forms part of the comprehensive course ‘Theory and History of the Persian Language’. Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. The course concludes with an examination.
