Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of theoretical and practical courses of the Ukrainian language taught in previous semesters. 2. Familiarity with the features of the lexical and phraseological system of the Ukrainian language, types of translation, and basic skills of written and oral translation from the Ukrainian language to the native language and vice versa.
Course content
Formation and development of socio-cultural competence of foreign students through familiarization with the national and cultural specifics of various units of the Ukrainian language. The discipline is designed to represent the Ukrainian language as a source and treasury of information about the Ukrainian ethnic group, to promote the formation of communicative competence of foreign students. The course introduces foreign-speaking higher education students to typical phenomena of national reality in the process of studying the Ukrainian language, involves foreign students in Ukrainian culture, a different way of thinking and ideas about the world, teaches them to independently conduct and direct a dialogue of cultures, which is a necessary factor for free communication with native speakers of the Ukrainian language, understanding and correct interpretation of unadapted texts, and adequate translation.The main attention in the course is paid to the study of non-equivalent and background vocabulary. The discipline also teaches to recognize the national-cultural specificity of various language units, introduces the national-cultural specificity of speech behavior, the features of speech etiquette and the national features of non-verbal communication of Ukrainians.

Practical classes, independent work. Project method in the form of working with information. Explanatory and illustrative and explanatory and demonstrative methods, interactive method (work in pairs). Collection and analysis of information, discussion.
