Learning outcomes
PRN2. Confident knowledge of state and foreign languages for implementation
written and oral communication, in particular in professional and scientific situations
communication; to present the results of state and foreign research
languages.
PRN10. Collect and systematize linguistic, literary facts, create and
interpret texts of different styles and genres (within the specialization 035.01
Ukrainian language and literature).
PRN 11. To be familiar with the principles, techniques and methods of producing spoken and written texts of various genres and styles in the national language, as well as in Belarusian, English, Czech /Polish.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know:
the general structure of the modern Ukrainian language;
the units of the phonetic, lexical, morphological and syntactic levels
of the Ukrainian language;
the functions of the units at the structural levels of the Ukrainian language;
basic information (from the school curriculum) on the lexical system
, the main classifications of vocabulary, the structure of a dictionary entry, and the characteristics
of idioms; human anatomy and physiology, as well as having a basic
understanding of the physical nature of sound and knowing the main characteristics
of vowels and consonants, stress and intonation.
Be able to:
express their own thoughts and opinions;
carry out lexical, phraseological and phonetic analysis of units
of the Ukrainian language;
Possess basic skills in
working with teaching and learning materials;
searching for information in recommended academic sources;
analysing and comparing linguistic phenomena;
Course content
The aim of the course is to provide philology students with a professional understanding of the lexical system of the modern Ukrainian literary language, the main types of lexical meanings, and the classifications and characteristics of lexical groups in terms of origin, domain and frequency
of use; the fundamentals of lexicography as a discipline; the phraseological system of the language; with the theoretical and natural aspects of studying the sound structure of the modern Ukrainian literary language, its segmental and suprasegmental subsystems, methods
of the experimental-phonetic research method, the typology of sound changes in speech flow and their phonological interpretation, and the main norms of Ukrainian orthoepy.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practical classes, management of independent work and control over it performance, exam.
Assessment methods and criteria
During practical sessions, the following types of work are assessed: oral responses, contributions, participation in discussions, tests, analytical reports, and mid-term and final assessments. The final semester mark is calculated based on the marks obtained by the student through these various forms of assessment and the mark achieved in the final examination. The maximum weighting is allocated as follows: 60 marks (60%) – semester assessment and 40 marks (40%) – exam. Students who have scored a total of fewer than 36 marks are not permitted to sit the exam. Students who have not reached the pass mark
(36 marks) during the semester must make up for the missed topics in order to be admitted to the exam.
