Learning outcomes
LO10. Understand the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practical situations.

Knowledge:
1) Students’ proficiency in Turkish and English at a level sufficient to meet their communication needs.

1) Apply knowledge of two foreign languages to solve professional tasks;
2) apply the rules of text construction in working languages to ensure coherence, consistency, and integrity based on compositional and linguistic forms;
Possess:
1) skills in using all registers of communication: formal, informal, and neutral; the ability to recognize linguistic markers of social relations, etc.
Course content
The course «English-Turkish Oral and Written Translation» is designed to develop and improve the translation skills of fourth-year students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in major 035 «Philology» (035.068 Eastern Languages and Literatures (including translation), with Turkish as the primary language), which involve the accurate reproduction of the full text of the Turkish original into English and vice versa, taking into account the lexical, grammatical, and stylistic features of both languages. The presentation of the material is concise, simple, and geared toward maximum practical application. The assignments are supplemented with the following materials: texts of various thematic, genre, and stylistic orientations; video materials for audiovisual translation from Turkish into English and vice versa; and so on. A description is provided of the basic translation transformations that ensure the development of students’ linguistic and translation competence.
The course «English-Turkish Oral and Written Translation» is an independent component of the elective block «Linguistics and Translation», with a total duration of 90 hours (including 44 hours of practical classes and 46 hours of independent study).
The course program consists of two content modules per semester. Instruction is conducted in the form of practical classes. The course concludes with an exam.
