Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: 1) the grammatical, phonetic, and lexical structure of the Turkish language; 2) the main historical stages of the region’s development. Be able to: 1) name the most significant monuments of Turkish literature; 2) identify the chronological framework of the Turkish language’s development. Be able to: 1) work with primary sources and critical literature.
Course content
The course «History of the Turkish Language» is the second part of the comprehensive course «General Theoretical Course in Turkic Languages», the aim of which is to familiarize students with the major developments in the Turkish language from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives; to deepen the general philological training of future Turkologists; to teach students to understand the structure and system of the Turkish language; to familiarize them with the main outcomes of historical processes characteristic of language development; and to demonstrate the causes and pathways of the formation of specific linguistic features inherent in the modern state of the Turkish language. Taking this course deepens the general linguistic training of future philologists, helps students understand the structure and system of the Turkish language and the main outcomes of the language’s diachronic development, and demonstrates the causes and mechanisms behind the formation of language-specific features characteristic of its current state. The course includes 2 content modules and 2 module exams. The course concludes with a final exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted according to the ECTS system, which involves a two-tier evaluation of the material covered, specifically an assessment of theoretical knowledge, which accounts for 50% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1. Module test: 15–20 points. 2. Presentation defense: 15–25 points. 3. Oral presentation (3–5 min): 6–10 points. 3. Seminar participation: 12–25 points. 4. Credit: 12–20 points.
