2) the periods of Turkish literature within their historical and cultural context.

1) apply theoretical concepts to the analysis of literary works.

1) the basic tools of philological analysis (identifying theme, idea, composition, system of images, and stylistic devices).
Course content
The comprehensive course «History of Literature in the Turkic World», Part 5: «Tanzimat Literature», is a component of the theoretical course on Turkish literature, the aim of which is to provide a systematic overview of the key facts of the history of literature during the Tanzimat era, as well as the general patterns of its development. The course aims to determine the place of Tanzimat-era Turkish literature among world literatures, to study and research its state, plot, and main themes, and to read, comprehend, and analyze textual materials of Tanzimat literature. Taking this course deepens the general literary training of future philologists, helps students understand the structure and system of Turkish literature, the main literary processes of the Tanzimat era, reveals the causes and pathways of the formation of specific literary movements and processes characteristic of its current state, and deepens knowledge of Turkish-speaking communities as well as the specific sociocultural factors that influenced the development of Turkish literature. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and practical sessions. The course concludes in the fifth semester with a mid-term assessment.
