Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know:
1) basic knowledge of general linguistics, the history of the country whose language is being studied, and background information on the linguistic and cultural aspects of the language;
2) general information about language as a systemic and structural phenomenon, about the various levels of language and the units that comprise them;
Be able to:
1) apply acquired knowledge in the practice of linguistic and cross-linguistic communication, translation, and in the scientific analysis of linguistic phenomena;
2) apply theoretical knowledge of Turkic linguistics in acquiring lexical, grammatical, semantic, phonological, and orthoepic competencies.
Possess:
1) skills in the practical analysis of specific linguistic phenomena.
Course content
The course «Introduction to Turkic Philology» is part of the comprehensive course «General Theoretical Course in Turkic Languages» and is taught in the first semester of the bachelor’s program, in accordance with the curriculum of the «Turkish Language, Literature, and Translation; English Language» program. The course is an integral part of developing the professional competence of future specialists in the field of Turkish philology. This course is based on foundational knowledge of general linguistics and the history of Turkey; its aim is to deepen understanding of the development of philological trends in the Turkic-speaking world and the history of the formation of academic schools that address issues in Turkic linguistics. The course provides a well-founded selection of foundational linguistic knowledge, the understanding of which is essential for the professional training of a philologist, enriches this knowledge with new factual material, and clarifies and systematizes it based on the achievements of linguistic theory.
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and practical sessions. The course concludes with an exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge), which accounts for 40% of the total grade, and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills); (communication); (autonomy and responsibility), which accounts for 60% of the total grade.
Assessment of semester work:
1. Control work: 9 - 15 points.
2. Presentation: 12 - 20 points.
3. Performing an individual task to describe the language (optional): 6 - 10 points.
4. Analysis of source literature on the theory of comparative linguistics: 9 - 15 points.
5. Exam: 24 - 40 points.
