Course content
This course is both theoretical and practical in nature and helps future specialists in the field of Turkic philology gain the practical experience necessary for their future professional careers. The course content includes a brief overview of the history of literary studies, an introduction to the specific characteristics of one of the arts—the verbal arts—and the essential components of literary analysis. The course aims to familiarize students with the history of the Turkic oral and written literary tradition, folklore genres, and the specific characteristics of the sources that form the foundation of Turkic literature. The course “Fundamentals of Literary Studies of the Countries of the Region” is one of the general methodological disciplines designed to formulate a comprehensive system of philological thinking and professional analysis of artistic and literary phenomena.
This course is part of the comprehensive discipline “History of Literature of the Turkic World,” and thus helps form a holistic understanding of the origins of Turkic literature, introduces students to the earliest written sources, and explores the varieties of oral folk art and literary fiction. Mastery of one of the general theoretical core disciplines of philological education takes place through a combination of 22 hours of lectures and 22 hours of seminars, supplemented by 46 hours of independent study of methodological materials; the course concludes with an exam.
