Learning outcomes
Knowledge: key concepts and research approaches in human geography, current discourse on space and place; the main ideas of key concepts in cultural, population, behavioural, economic, social and urban geographies; subject of contemporary debates in urban and regional studies; content of the key English-language human-geographical works on urban and regional studies. Skills: to conduct a professional discussion on topic in human geography in English; summarize English-language works in human geography; present research results in English

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know the main theories and research approaches in human geography. 2. To be able to review special literature, to use research methods of economic and social geography studies. 3. Proficiency in English at a level no lower than B2.
Course content
This discipline provides in-depth study of the key concepts in human geography, as well as the topics of contemporary debates and the latest publications on urban and regional studies. In particular, it is devoted to comprehensive study of the concepts of spatial diffusion of culture, ‘cultural turn’ in geography, the second demographic transition, sense of place, placelessness, uneven capitalist development, geography of exclusion, social justice in cities, the right to the city, postmodern geographies, as well as contemporary discussions on planetary urbanization, gentrification, theorising the post-socialist city, urban geopolitics, urban identity, shifting paradigms in urban planning, uneven regional development, peripheralization, social inequality and injustice, neighbourhood belonging and place attachment, liquid migration. This discipline is designed to train professionals capable to conduct discussions in the field of human geography based on the main achievements of current thought, to present and defend own ideas and suggestions in English.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars and independent studies
Assessment methods and criteria
The course consists of two thematic parts. The classes include lectures and seminars. Final assessment is in the form of examination. Semester assessment: the number of points that the student receives during the semester is the sum of the points obtained during the evaluation of work in seminar classes, presenting individual works, work in teams, and thematic tests. Organization of assessment: work in seminar classes is evaluated upon completion, in accordance with the schedule of seminar classes. Thematic control works are conducted in the form of tests. Learning outcomes in the case of mastery at the appropriate level are assessed as follows: 1. Seminar talks and discussions – from 12 to 20 points. 2. Presenting individual works – from 6 to 10 points. 3. Work in teams – from 6 to 10 points. 4. Thematic tests – from 12 to 20 pints.
