Learning outcomes
– to familiarize with the scientific theory and methodology of cartographic toponymy research;
– to form an understanding of the primary collection of geographical names in the area, their analysis and systematization;
– to form skills in standardization, the development of norms and rules for writing geographical names on maps.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Possession of a bachelor's degree in Earth sciences; geodesy and land management, geography; be able to work with an electronic database of geographical names.
Course content
The curriculum of the academic discipline consists of the following content modules:
1. Theoretical and methodological principles of cartographic toponymy (concept, object, subject of study, classification, etymology of geographical names);
2. Methodology for reproducing foreign geographical names in Ukrainian and transmitting geographical names of Ukraine in Latin;
3. Toponymic cartographic works in Ukraine and the world.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of completed and defended practical work, written tests, and exams.
The specific weight of learning outcomes in the final assessment, provided that they are mastered at the appropriate level, is as follows:
- knowledge (1.1–1.4 – 30 points);
- skills (2.1–2.4 – 20 points);
- communication (3.1 – 40 points);
- autonomy and responsibility (4.1 – 10 points).
Assessment methods and criteria
- current (semester) assessment (essays (minimum score 24, maximum 40; tests (6 – 20); independent work (5 – 20));
– summary (final) assessment in the form of a test (grade for knowledge of theory (minimum 12, maximum 40 points).
For students who scored a total of fewer points than the critical calculation minimum of 35 points, in order to be admitted to the final control form, it is mandatory to submit an additional completed individual complex task.
