Learning outcomes
Conduct experimental or theoretical research in physics and astronomy, analyze the results obtained in the context of existing theories, make reasoned conclusions (including an assessment of the degree of uncertainty) and proposals for further research. Select and use appropriate methods for processing and analyzing data from physical or astronomical research and assess their reliability. Provide a phenomenological and theoretical description of the physical or astronomical phenomena, objects and processes under study. Present research results in the form of reports at seminars, conferences, etc., provide a professional written description of scientific research, taking into account the requirements, purpose and target audience. Develop and apply effective algorithms and specialized software for studying models of physical and astronomical objects and processes, processing the results of experiments and observations.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basics of electrodynamics, the basic concepts of the general optics course. 2. Be able to change the amplitude and phase of an electromagnetic wave, measure the emission and absorption spectra, the angular dependence of the intensity of scattered radiation. 3. Have elementary knowledge of mathematical analysis.
Course content
“Waveguide Optics” includes the study of the following sections: fiber-optic communication lines, two-dimensional planar dielectric optical fibers, rectangular optical fibers, round cylindrical optical fibers (optical fibers), and physical principles of constructing fiber-optic communication lines.
