Learning outcomes
Know: The current level of study of the mineral and raw material base of the World; metallogenic zoning and regional ore-bearing features; metallogenic specialization of ancient platforms and Phanerozoic structures. Mineral and resource base of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, rare, noble and radioactive metals. Be able to: Determine the potential relationship between genetic types of rocks, structural settings and mineralization. Use the acquired knowledge to determine the most important directions of further mineral exploration in the world and on the territory of Ukraine. Know the patterns of deposits location in geological structures, assess their economic attractiveness and possible ways of use. To create the analytical notes about mineral resources of individual regions, analyze the prospects for increasing mineral resources and economic factors that affect the development and competitiveness of mineral deposits.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The theoretical foundations of mineralogy and the geology of mineral deposits should be known.
Course content
The course presents up-to-date information on the global characteristics of the distribution of various types of minerals, global trends in their extraction and use, and recent changes in the global mineral market. A detailed analysis of regional and industry trends in global mining production is presented for both individual countries and the largest mining companies. The lecture materials take into ac-count the rapid changes in the development of the global mineral resource base, which is associated with significant changes in mineral extraction, global restructuring in the mining industry, and the emergence and consolidation of new players in the global market for the extraction and processing of minerals.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars and independent work of the student
Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a scale of 100 points. The evaluation is carried out according to the accumulative system and provides: 2 tests, each of which is evaluated at 20 points (a minimum of 12 points). The 20 points (a minimum of 12 points) are allocated for work in seminars. The final assessment is an exam (maximum 40 points, marginal 24 points). During the ex-am, the student demonstrate knowledge related to the distribution of certain types of ore and non-ore minerals, the main geological types of their deposits, the current state of resources and reserves, qualitative characteristics of mining and processing, market conditions. The final grade is based on the results of the student's work over a period of semester, as the sum of points for systematic work in seminars, the results of tests and knowledge of lecture information, and points obtained during the ex-am.
