Learning outcomes
PLO 7. Analyse, compare and classify different areas and schools of linguistics. PLO 9. Describe the theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen philological specialisation. PLO 13. Accessibly and Explain the essence of specific philological issues, their own point of view on and its justification to both specialists and the general public, including students. PLO 16. To use specialised conceptual knowledge of Modern Greek philology and English English to solve complex problems and issues that require updating and integration of knowledge, often in the face of incomplete/insufficient information and conflicting demands.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know basic linguistic terms, basic linguistic concepts; theoretical theoretical foundations of basic linguistic courses, the basics of linguistic analysis methods; principles of analysis of language material; features of semantics, structure and functioning of units of all levels of the English language; peculiarities of text formation within the framework of discourse types and functional styles. The student should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice in practice; have the skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of linguistic facts; communication on linguistic topics.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to provide Master's students with knowledge of English language theory, to acquaint students with modern concepts, theories, schools, the most promising areas of English language research, the main trends in the development of communication and changes in the English language under the influence of socio-cultural factors, creolisation of the communicative space and the spread of multimodality. Annotation of the course The course covers a wide range of issues of English language theory, its evolution to the current state of English as a global language, a language of intercultural communication, to the most promising areas of its research, namely sociolinguistics ecolinguistics, corpus linguistics, experimental phonetics, linguistic landscape, multimodality, discourse analysis. Students are offered tasks for independent work that requires analytical observations, linguistic research, and independent study of modern language data.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods: lectures, independent work, practical classes. Learning activities: oral answer, preparation of a presentation / multimodal project, test.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of semester work: 1. Oral answer: LO 1.1; LO 1.2; LO 2.1; LO 2.2; LO 3.1, LO 3.2, PH 4.1 - 15/30 points. 2. Preparation of a presentation / multimodal project: EQ 2.1; EQ 2.2; ELO 3.1, ELO 3.2, ELO 4.1 - 7/10 points. 3. Control work: PH 1.1; PH 1.2; PH 2.1; PH 2.2, PH 3.1 - 14/20 points. The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained for classroom work (oral answers, quizzes, presentation / multimodal project defence) and independent work (preparation of independent work tasks, preparation of a presentation / multimodal project). Final assessment: exam - PH1.1-1.2, 2.1-2, 3.1, 4.1 - 24/40 points. The total number of points in the discipline (60/100 points) is determined as the sum of points for semester work (36/60 points) and the final assessment - the exam (24/40 points).
