Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, the students must know basic French grammar, vocabulary and phonetics; be able to communicate fluently in French (with enough phonetic, lexical and grammatical accuracy and using correct syntactic patterns) in different situations; to make linguistic-stylistic and translational analysis of texts; have basic skills of abstracting and annotating in French various socio-political, special and fiction texts.
Course content
Course objectives. Improving French language proficiency, develop the skills and abilities of written and oral speech activity and use of French in its literary norm; mastering the basic principles of translating texts on social and cultural topics.
Abstract. The subject matter of the course is the study of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar of French language, enabling the students’ further professional communication and processing authentic information from French resources. The study of the language structure is based on the assimilation of different types of speech activity: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The technique of translating texts focused on national cultural traditions, historical and social values of France (linguistic and cultural aspects) is a major focus of the course.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned learning activities include the following:
1. Oral answer, blitz test.
2. Written assignments (essays and other works).
3. Research work in preparation of the presentation.
4. Defense of the presentation.
5. Tests.
6. Written translations.
Teaching methods include interactive, analysis and synthesis, multimedia, structural, ludic, creative heuristic.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum students can get during the semester is 100 points. Semester assessment includes:
- oral answers, blitz tests - max. 30 points;
- written assignments (essays and other works) - max. 30 points;
- preparation and defense of the presentation - max. 20 points;
- final course test: test + translation - max. 20 points;
Students who score a minimum positive score of 60 receive get "passed". Students who do not get the minimum positive number of points - 60, receive - "fail".
