Learning outcomes
Know the assortment of precious and semi-precious stones of Ukraine and the world, scientific and legislative principles of its classification and naming; Know the main types of deposits of precious and semi-precious stones in Ukraine and the world, methods of extraction and processing, areas of use and requirements for raw materials; Know the main and auxiliary methods of research of precious and semi-precious stones, the order and possibilities of their use; The ability to master the theoretical principles and terminology of the course of the discipline; To have the methodology of expert assessment of precious and semi-precious stones of Ukraine and the world.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know the theoretical foundations of mineralogy; 2. To be able to read modern crystal-chemical formulas of minerals, to characterize the main ones peculiarities of morphology and anatomy of minerals. 3. To have basic skills of diagnosing the most common minerals by their physical properties.
Course content
Within the framework of the discipline "Precious and semi-precious stones of Ukraine and the World" basic information is given about the most common precious and semi-precious stones of deposits / ore occurrences of Ukraine and the world; the main types of gem deposits and the requirements for the latter are given. The purpose of the discipline is to form future specialists an idea of ​​the assortment of precious and semi-precious stones of Ukraine and the world, the field of its use and requirements for raw materials, as well as the possibility of studying by mineralogical and petrographic methods.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: 1) Control written work from content module 1 - max 10 / min 6 points; 2) Reports (in the form of 5 oral presentations with written theses) - max 8 / min 4 points for each; 3) Control written work from content module 2 - max 10 / min 6 points. Final evaluation in the form of a mandatory exam - max 40 / min 24 points. A student is not admitted to the exam if he scored less than 20 points during the semester. The student is admitted to the exam on the condition of completing two control papers and on the condition of completing 60% of the reports provided for in the plan. Evaluation organization: Control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: 5 reports (where students must demonstrate the quality of the acquired knowledge and solve the tasks) and 2 written modular control papers. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written exam. The assessment is carried out on a 100-point scale.
